REFUSE the DEMOLITION

of 3432 Metcalfe St.

What is happening ?

In Rawdon, a real estate developer is trying to get the demolition of 3432 Metcalfe, the historic building that currently houses the florist Fleurs d'Élysée. Let’s mobilize before May 13, 2024 to preserve this important piece of history.

REFUSE the DEMOLITION
of 3432 Metcalfe street

The Rawdon municipal council, at its meeting of May 13, 2024, will respond to a request to authorize the demolition of the building of strong heritage interest, located at 3432- 3432B, Metcalfe Street.

WHEREAS the house at 3432-3432B has long been recognized as being of great heritage interest by both the municipality and the MRC de la Matawinie. It recalls more than 90 years of Rawdon's history and is located at the historic entrance to Rawdon.

WHEREAS cultural heritage fosters the cohesion of a community by reinforcing its identity and sense of belonging. In addition, heritage contributes to the economic vitality of all surrounding businesses by underlining a town's brand image.

WHEREAS the construction of a large-scale complex at this intersection will increase vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The safety and quality of life of the citizens of this neighbourhood, already governed by a PIIA, will be significantly and irreversibly affected.

THEREFORE, we ask the Rawdon municipal council :

1- To refuse the demolition of the heritage building located at 3432-3432B, Metcalfe Street.

2- To refuse the construction of a large-scale complex on this site.

HOW CAN YOU HELP EVEN MORE?

The more of us who sign the petition to ask the city council to refuse this demolition request, the more likely we will be to save this building.
